Driving Around Falun
Falun was founded around a copper mine that dates back to the 11th century. While the mine is no longer functional, it is a popular tourist attraction and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Falun is located in Dalama province and provides great shopping for typical Swedish souvenirs like the Dala Horse or the rarer Falu Maiden. Once your shopping is done, you can head over to the Dalarnas Museum, or if sports are more attractive, the Lugnet Sports Arena for swimming, hiking or cross-country skiing. Nearby lake Runn provides kayak and canoe rentals. From Falun, one can drive to the nearby city of Borlänge and explore sites like the Ornasstugan, a house dating to the 16th century that sheltered King Gustaf Vasa.
