To rent a car with SIXT you will need a valid driver’s license, plus a passport if you are an international renter. Outside of the US, you will need a valid license plus an ID or passport. You may also need an international driving permit, or official translation of your license, if it uses a non-Roman alphabet like Arabic.

For payment, you need a valid credit or debit card (only accepted at some branches) in the name of the renter. There are minimum age requirements to rent with SIXT, and higher ages to book or drive some premium and luxury car categories, as well as larger vehicles.

A deposit is generally charged when you rent with SIXT, and the amount depends on the country and location you are renting in, as well as what car category you book. High-end or luxury vehicles may have a higher deposit amount. The deposit amount will be charged to the credit or debit card you provide when picking up your car rental.

Rental with a debit card is possible at some SIXT branches. The debit card needs to be issued by a major financial institution, and accompanied by two forms of government ID. Not all branches accept debit cards, and you will need a credit card to rent certain car categories, including luxury and specialty vehicles.

You can pay for a SIXT rental with a major credit card at all branches. Some branches accept debit cards issued by a major financial institution when accompanied by two forms of government ID. Locations in certain countries also accept cash payment, although you may also need to present a credit card for the deposit.

We offer a range of useful extras you can choose to add to your rental, either when booking or picking up your car. Add GPS to find the fastest route, child seats to keep everyone safe, an additional driver to share time behind the wheel, or choose a protection package for peace of mind.

At some locations you can add SIXT Connect for Wi-Fi and phone service while on the road, toll service to save time paying at toll plazas, or all-wheel drive and winter equipment to be prepared no matter what the weather brings.

You can add an additional driver to your rental contract either while booking or at the counter. Additional drivers need to present a valid driver’s license. There is a fee for an additional driver. In some locations, it’s required by law that the additional driver is free of charge.

We offer one-way car rentals in many locations, whether it’s between stations in the same city or long-distance. International one-way rentals are generally not allowed. If you want to book a one-way rental with SIXT, it’s best to contact the branch where you want to pick up the vehicle and ask about their policy. Rental between two different stations may also not be available for some car categories.

An additional fee may apply to one-way rentals, especially if you are not given permission ahead of time.
